Occupying an entire city block near Montreal’s Lachine Canal, Les Éclusiers Lofts is a 4-storey, 82-unit residential condominium complex. The original 1873, 2-storey brick building used to house an upholstery factory.

With its 3-wythe load-bearing masonry walls, heavy mill-timber construction, and double tongue-and-groove floor planks, the building is characteristic of Montreal’s late 19th century industrial architecture vernacular.

EVOQ was mandated to rehabilitate the historic building and design a 2-storey glass and steel addition that harmonized with the industrial aesthetic. The project demonstrated a commercial demand for industrial heritage conservation and successful architectural integration planning.
