Social Housing in Nunavik: Construction of the Pilot Project Completed

January 12, 2016

In September 2015, EVOQ in collaboration with the Société d’habitation du Québec, Makivik Corp., the Kativik Regional Government and the Kativik Municipal Housing Bureau (KMHB) announced a pilot project to design social housing in the north, adapted to Inuit culture. Our team and SNC Lavalin engineering team are now proud to announce that the construction of the prototype, a duplex with 2-bedroom apartments, was completed in January 2016.

With winter temperatures dipping below 20 degrees Celsius in Quebec’s northern region of Nunavik, housing shortages and home insulation have become major issues attracting national media attention.

For more on the project, read the article published by CBC on January 3rd

La Presse also published an article (French only) on the topic on January 3rd.

An interview with Alain Fournier, co-founder of EVOQ and Lead Architect of the project, is available on the Radio-Canada website (French only)
