Heritage of Indigenous peoples incorporated into the landscape design of future childcare centre

Marie-France Turgeon, landscape architect and associate at EVOQ, was interviewed by udemnouvelles with regards to the landscape project at Université de Montréal’s childcare centre at its Marie-Victorin pavillion.

“The concept that characterizes the site is based on three elements that emerged from discussions between the various stakeholders,” explains Marie-France Turgeon, “namely, the recognition of the heritage value of Mount Royal’s landscape and native wildlife, the link to the mountain as a significant place of heritage for Indigenous peoples, and the proximity to nature for the children.”

The project hopes to encourage outdoor play through a program that enables a multitude of outdoor activities, discovery, sports, as well as includes cultural, artistic and musical elements.
