Context
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and talented Director of IT to join our team in Montreal.
Reporting directly to the Director Principal and serving as a member of the executive committee, the Director of IT is responsible for defining and executing the company’s technology strategy. This role ensures IT governance, cybersecurity, infrastructure performance, and systems modernization to support growth, operational efficiency, and innovation.
As a strategic leader, they will oversee the organization’s IT roadmap and ensure that technology investments are aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic IT Leadership and Governance
- Define and execute the IT strategy in alignment with business objectives, IT governance best practices (ITIL, ISO 27001, etc.), and the needs of the architecture sector.
- Establish and maintain a governance framework, standards, policies, and procedures to promote standardization, compliance, sustainability, and operational predictability.
- Advise leadership on technology risks, cybersecurity, technology obsolescence management, and innovation opportunities.
IT Infrastructure, Operations, and Asset Management
- Oversee the architecture, operation, and evolution of infrastructure, networks, cloud platforms, and critical systems.
- Implement robust IT asset management practices, including documentation, configuration management, and operational procedures.
- Improve system redundancy, backup mechanisms, business continuity plans (BCP), and disaster recovery plans (DRP) to ensure service availability.
- Develop performance indicators and monitoring mechanisms to support stable and predictable operations.
Transformation and Continuous Improvement
- Lead the modernization and transformation of IT environments to improve service quality, resilience, operational efficiency, and user experience.
- Reduce technical debt by streamlining systems, processes, and the application portfolio.
- Identify, prioritize, and implement automation initiatives to increase productivity and reduce operational risks.
- Maintain targeted technology awareness and evaluate the integration of new solutions (cloud, AI, collaboration tools, BIM, etc.) based on business value.
Cybersecurity, Identity, and Data Protection
- Define and maintain a cybersecurity strategy integrating risk management, prevention, detection, and incident response.
- Ensure access governance, identity management, data protection, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Develop and maintain a technology risk matrix and an ongoing cybersecurity awareness program.
Solution Management and User Support
- Oversee the deployment, integration, and evolution of business, design, and collaboration solutions.
- Ensure effective technology adoption by implementing and maintaining employee training, support, and skills development programs.
- Provide training and support for Microsoft 365 platforms (SharePoint, Teams, and other collaboration tools) to maximize their adoption and value.
Team, Vendor, and Budget Management
- Lead, develop, and engage internal IT teams and external partners within a culture of service excellence.
- Manage the IT budget, optimize investments, and ensure a return on investment for technology initiatives.
- Establish strategic relationships with vendors, negotiate service agreements, and ensure compliance with service-level agreements (SLAs).
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree in information technology management, cybersecurity, or business administration (MBA) is an asset.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive IT experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership or IT management role, ideally within a demanding technical environment (architecture, engineering, construction, or another complex industry).
- Professional certifications such as ITIL, CISSP, CISM, PMP, COBIT, or Microsoft certifications.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Azure, and modern collaboration platforms.
- Strong strategic and operational IT skills, leadership and communication abilities, and a strong internal customer service orientation.
- Knowledge of technology and governance standards.
- Familiarity with BIM, CAD/design software, and technologies/tools used in similar technical environments.
- Knowledge of generative AI concepts, legal frameworks, and practical applications.
- Knowledge of industry vendors is an asset.
- Strong vigilance, critical thinking, and agility in response to rapid technological change.
- Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.
