409 Front St & CNR Building
As the western gateway to the 2015 Pan Am Games Athletes Village in Toronto, the Canadian National Railway (CNR) Building and 409 Front Street (the former Canary restaurant) served as the focal point of the Village and an anchor for newly developed West Donlands. The buildings are a reminder of the area’s industrial past. EVOQ prepared the Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) to evaluate any potential impact of the new construction occurring adjacent to the property, and the overall PAN AM village development on the building. The envelope assessment included mock-ups of various masonry repairs, cleaning and repointing, as well as repairs to the original wood and steel windows. EVOQ was responsible contract documents and contract administration for the conservation scope of their exterior envelope including brick repairs and parapet reconstruction, wood and steel windows rehabilitation, and roof replacement.
