Calgary Public Building
The Calgary Public Building combines modern functionality with the elegance of an important heritage building. Located at the east end of Stephen Avenue, it housed the federal government’s local activities for much of the 20th century. EVOQ's mandate was to ensure the preservation and sustainability of this iconic building as municipal offices and gateway to a renowned performing arts venue. Its fossil-rich Tyndall limestone envelope enhances both its durability and visual appeal. Inspired by the Beaux-Arts style, the building features Ionic columns, pilasters, decorative cornices and Chicago-style windows finished in cast iron and marble. EVOQ implemented a meticulous restoration plan, repairing or replacing damaged stonework and window elements. By the end of the project, the building’s heritage character could be fully appreciated.
