Block 2 Redevelopment

Block 2 occupies a unique position in Ottawa, bridging the ‘crown’ and ‘town’ dynamic. Its northern façade along Wellington Street faces Parliament Hill, contributing to the formal, historic character of the area. Meanwhile, its southern façade on Sparks Street reflects the lively commercial atmosphere, with varied storefronts and monumental entrances.

EVOQ Architecture, as the heritage specialist on the team led by Zeidler Architecture and David Chipperfield Architects, is responsible for the conservation plan and rehabilitation of seven historic buildings. The design integrates these structures into new construction, creating a dignified presence on Wellington while enhancing Sparks Street's accessibility.

This project honours Canada's heritage through a conservation approach grounded in historic, indigenous, aesthetic, and environmental values. It will provide office space for the Senate and House of Commons, support parliamentary functions, and include renovated retail spaces, embodying a sustainable and inclusive future for Block 2.
