Block 2 Redevelopment

Block 2 occupies a unique position in Ottawa, at the junction between downtown and Parliament Hill. Its north façade, along Wellington Street, is formal and dignified, in keeping with this landmark site. Its south façade, on Sparks Street, reflects instead a lively, commercial atmosphere at a human scale.

EVOQ Architecture, heritage conservation specialists within the team led by Zeidler Architecture and David Chipperfield Architects, is responsible for the conservation and rehabilitation of the block's seven historic buildings. The project integrates them into new construction, respecting the character of Wellington Street while strengthening the vitality of Sparks Street.

Grounded in historical, Indigenous, aesthetic, and environmental values, the project will provide office space for the Senate and House of Commons, along with renovated commercial spaces — a sustainable and inclusive future for Block 2.
