Block 2 Redevelopment

Block 2 occupies a unique position in Canada’s capital, where Parliament Hill meets Ottawa’s historic downtown.  Directly south of Centre Block and the Peace Tower, the redevelopment weaves together Block 2’s historic structures with new low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings to create a diverse, compatible, and balanced whole.

As heritage conservation architect on the team led by Zeidler Architecture and David Chipperfield Architects, EVOQ Architecture is responsible for the conservation and rehabilitation of the project’s seven historic buildings.

Guided by responsible stewardship of heritage, environmental, and Indigenous values, the redesigned block will provide offices and committee rooms for the Senate and House of Commons, integrate the Library of Parliament, include renovated retail space along the Sparks Street Mall, and introduce a new public square on axis with the Peace Tower - supporting a sustainable and inclusive future for Block 2.
