Campus du Fort de la Montagne – Master Plan
The Fort de la Montagne Campus represents an exceptional heritage site located at the foot of Mount Royal, with origins dating back to 1675 when the Sulpicians established their mission. This historic site houses the two towers of Fort de la Montagne, built around 1685, which rank among the oldest stone structures on the Island of Montreal. The site enjoys multiple levels of heritage protection: designation as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1970 and classification of the towers as historic monuments in 1974. This remarkable historical continuity, maintained since the Sulpicians' arrival in the mid-17th century, makes the campus a unique witness to Montreal's evolution.
The Priests of Saint-Sulpice of Montreal commissioned EVOQ to develop a master plan supporting future development and enhancement projects for the Grand Seminary of Montreal site, which holds several levels of heritage designation. The process involved extensive consultation with all partners and stakeholders, including various organizations, institutions, and government authorities such as the Collège de Montréal, which already occupies part of the grounds, potential collaborators from educational and cultural sectors, the City of Montreal, and Quebec's Ministry of Culture and Communications.
Published in June 2018, the Fort de la Montagne Campus Master Plan serves as a reference document guiding property development while strengthening its theological and educational mission, which has continued since the Sulpicians established themselves on the site in the mid-17th century. The plan communicates the campus's overall direction and establishes a coherent framework for future development, ensuring the preservation and enhancement of this exceptional heritage site.
