Georges Drolet
Georges Drolet is Principal and CEO of EVOQ Architecture. For over thirty years, Georges has contributed to the revitalization of iconic buildings in Canada. As demonstrated by his award-winning projects, Georges bases his practice on the conviction that architecture is meaningful and actively contributes to the vitality of communities. Projects that best illustrate his distinctive design approach and future-oriented planning philosophy include: the interim House of Commons, West Block, Parliament Hill, Ottawa; Calgary's historic City Hall; the conservation plan for the former Royal Victoria Hospital site and buildings, Montreal; and the rehabilitation of the former Eaton's department store’s 9th Floor historic interior, Montreal.
As he is often called upon to develop pragmatic and relevant intervention strategies for the repurposing of historic buildings, Georges has developed an extensive portfolio covering many construction sectors, including civic and parliamentary buildings, cultural institutions, commercial complexes, hotels, schools, libraries and residential towers. In all cases, his design approach is based on a rigorous analysis of the evolution of the site to develop a coherent, forward-looking project vision.
Since 2000, he has led and tutored design studios at McGill University and the Université de Montréal. Georges served on the Board of Directors of ICOMOS Canada from 2013 to 2018, and on the Conseil du Patrimoine de Montréal (the municipal heritage advisory board) from 2015 to 2021. He is a member of the Comité Jacques-Viger de Montréal (the city’s urban design review committee).
Georges is a graduate of McGill University's School of Architecture and holds a master's degree in architectural history from the University of Virginia. He is a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
