Chibougamau-Chapais Air Terminal Building
The Chibougamau-Chapais airport is the gateway to the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region, serving Chibougamau, Chapais, and Oujé-Bougoumou. To accommodate growing passenger traffic, EVOQ Architecture + ARTCAD designed a new terminal, blending modern functionality with local culture. The terminal features two low structures connected by a central glazed concourse, ensuring easy access to all services. Passengers enjoy clear views of both the runway and the drop-off zone, enhancing fluidity and connectivity. The design incorporates locally sourced wood, including glulam and CLT, with timber curtain walls providing natural light and energy efficiency. Artwork by Emmanuelle Gendron integrates the region’s cultural heritage, displayed alongside signage in Cree and French. The terminal’s design emphasizes transparency, comfort, and functionality, reflecting the surrounding boreal forest.
