FACE School

Designed in 1914 by the Maxwell brothers, this Neoclassical building with ornate façades had suffered from age and partial restorations. EVOQ led two phases of work: the code upgrade and modernization of the auditorium, and a multi-year phased exterior restoration.

Inside the auditorium, the work balanced contemporary theatre requirements with conservation goals: stage expansion, acoustic improvements, discreetly integrating mechanical and electrical systems, addition of sprinkler systems, restoring the decorative plaster ceilings, and reinstating the original seating configuration.

On the exterior, the team addressed long-standing structural deficiencies and issues resulting from the natural aging of assemblies: replicating missing terra cotta elements, repairing the masonry, and replacing the windows with units matching their original appearance.

This project demonstrates how architectural heritage can accommodate modern learning spaces for future generations.
