Fire Hall No. 311 & 312 — Balmoral and Yorkville
Balmoral Fire Hall (1911), a Queen Anne style National Historic Site, and Yorkville Fire Hall (1889), of Gothic Revival style, are among the rare historic fire halls in Toronto still in operation. EVOQ conducted the building condition assessment of both hose towers, prepared the design and construction documents, and oversaw their restoration.
For both the Yorkville and Balmoral Fire Halls, the scope of work included repairs to the brick masonry, localized repointing and replacement, restoration of the clock face and its mechanism, and rehabilitation of the original wood windows. Additionally, at Yorkville Fire Hall, the slate roof and copper flashing were repaired, and at Balmoral Fire Hall, the cornice was redesigned.
All interventions were closely coordinated with City Fire Services to ensure the fire halls remained operational throughout the construction.
