Fort Frederick

Fort Frederick is part of the Point Frederick Buildings National Historic Site and the Kingston Fortifications National Historic Site. Built in 1846 overlooking Lake Ontario, the site includes munitions storage buildings, a 200-metre stone masonry defensive wall, and the Cathcart Martello Tower, a circular four-storey structure representative of 19th-century British military fortifications.

EVOQ carried out a comprehensive condition assessment of the masonry structures, followed by two pilot restoration projects — one on a section of the wall, the other on the tower — to test repair strategies ahead of larger-scale work.

Carried out over several phases, the project combined crane surveys, exploratory openings, and 3D laser scanning to identify the causes of deterioration. The selected repair solutions (grout injection, reconstruction, anchoring) were reviewed and approved by the BEEFP.
