Le 9e - Eaton Centre
A few months after Le 9e was listed by the Québec Ministry of Culture and Communications, Ivanhoé Cambridge tasked EVOQ with developing a conservation strategy in preparation for its reopening. The reopening of the space as a restaurant and event venue is the result of a close, continuous collaboration that began in 2001. Le 9e required complex interventions to meet current standards, particularly in terms of safety, hygiene, and comfort, without compromising the building’s identity.
EVOQ assembled a multidisciplinary team (artisans and specialists in art, furniture, and materials conservation, engineering, lighting, food services, scenography, acoustics, etc.) to restore and rehabilitate the 9th floor’s heritage interiors. Following an evaluation of the building’s condition and its distinctive elements, EVOQ developed a conservation strategy for restoring the restaurant to its original splendor while preserving its significant heritage value. For example, a detailed analysis of the layers of paint revealed the color palette from the 1930s, confirming the vision and intentions of Jacques Carlu, the original architect.
