Maison Akhwà:tsire - PAQ St-Hubert
This housing project for Indigenous people experiencing homelessness, developed by Projets Autochtones du Québec (PAQ), is located on rue St-Hubert in Tio'tià:ke / Montreal. PAQ supports First Nations, Inuit and Métis people facing precarious housing conditions. La Maison Akhwà:tsire includes transitional and permanent housing, common areas, an alcohol management program, and offices for psychosocial intervention available at all times.
The renovation project for both buildings was carried out by 2Architecture. The EVOQ team, led by Julia Shuliau Hervieux, Innu from Pessamit, was responsible for the interior design. Inspired by the changing seasons, the decorative elements harmoniously connect the different nations and their shared traditions. The renovations enhance the existing building while fostering a sense of security and community. The integration of indigenous installations reinforces the appropriation of the space by its occupants.
