Makivvik Housing: four-plexes
Makivvik Corporation is mandated to improve socio-economic conditions in Nunavik and to develop a social housing construction program in all 14 communities. After several projects involving two-bedroom units and more, a need for one-bedroom units was identified.
In 2013, after designing several housing prototypes to define the typology best suited to the Nunavimmiut lifestyle, EVOQ designed a 2-storey quadruplex with 1-bedroom units (called M4). This compact building features centralized mechanical systems to increase building efficiency while respecting the program's budgetary constraints.
This same quadruplex was further optimized to increase the number of bedrooms within the same unit dimensions, resulting in two 2-bedroom units and two 1-bedroom units.
