Makivvik Housing: reversible duplex
Since 2001, EVOQ has collaborated with the Makivvik Corporation to design and develop varied social housing models annually, across Nunavik's 14 communities.
In 2018, the J2.3 model was created: a 230 m², single-story semi-detached unit with three bedrooms. EVOQ collaborated closely with Makivvik to design a reversible floor plan, allowing optimal orientation of living spaces based on the specific site and location. This flexibility is crucial as Makivvik projects are designed before the site is known, ensuring efficient use of the homes. The project was developed using BIM, which enabled the design of the reversible model to be efficiently coordinated, while strategically using the same quantities of materials regardless of the building's orientation.
