Papineau Memorial Chapel
The Papineau Memorial Chapel is located on the Manoir-Papineau National Historic Site in Montebello, Quebec. The chapel was itself was also classified as a historic monument by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (MCCQ) in 1975. It was built by Louis-Joseph Papineau and his son Louis-Joseph Amédée on the seigneurial domain of Petite-Nation between 1853 and 1855 and is a beautiful example of the Gothic Revival style scaled appropriately to fit its surroundings.
Located off a pedestrian path in the middle of the forest, the Papineau Memorial Chapel is subtly set back among pine trees. The first phase of the project began in 2015 with research into the history of the Chapel and the development of a Conservation Plan outlining a primary Preservation treatment as described in the Standards and Guidelines. Based on the Conservation Plan, a scope of work was developed, and contract documents prepared for the conservation of the exterior envelope (masonry, roof, doors, and windows).
