Université de Montréal - Facade repairs - Roger-Gaudry Pavillon

Working in consortium with EVOQ, Jodoin, Lamarre, Pratte Architectes collaborated with the University to develop a comprehensive work strategy for the facade masonry restoration of the Roger-Gaudry Pavilion, the University's emblematic flagship building designed by architect Ernest Cormier.

This major restoration project addresses all building facades and was initiated to respond to requirements from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec to ensure public safety and preserve the heritage character of this important building. The work focuses on improving facade durability and weatherproofing through systematic masonry restoration.

Planning this project presents significant challenges, especially given the need to coordinate work in the context of multiple concurrent construction projects while keeping the building operational. The building's exceptional size necessitates a multi-year phased approach, requiring careful coordination among various teams and close collaboration with building users to minimize disruption to academic activities. Work proceeds in phases determined by urgency of conditions and site accessibility, alongside numerous other ongoing projects throughout the building.

The design team performed comprehensive investigations both inside and outside the building, commissioned materials testing, and developed detailed plans and specifications. They also conducted a thorough assessment of the monumental forecourt windows to help the university evaluate whether these can remain in service or require replacement.

Initial work phases focus on the monumental forecourt and north wing facades. The complete project is expected to extend through 2030.
