Situated within the Queen Street West Heritage Conservation District (HCD) in downtown Toronto, the Queen and Portland development features a 3 storeys commercial base, parking garage and a 5 storeys condominium tower.

The mixed-use development was subject to the guidelines of the HCD Plan, which was developed by EVOQ in conjunction with the City of Toronto. Because of the firm’s involvement developing the Plan, EVOQ was mandated by the developer to design the complex in compliance with the HCD guidelines and gain approvals from the municipal heritage review authorities.

EVOQ, in joint venture with Turner Fleisher Architects, designed a contemporary building that was successfully integrated within the historic neighbourhood. The project was the first large-scale development subject to the new guidelines.
