Manoir Richelieu: Winner of an Award of Excellence for Concrete Rehabilitation
EVOQ + STGM architects in joint venture and WSP are pleased to announce the completion of the façade rehabilitation of the iconic Manoir Richelieu in la Malbaie, Quebec. The project began in 2013 and consisted of careful evaluation of the building envelope, and phased rehabilitation of the cast-in-place concrete walls with replacement of the metal-frame windows. Like the original construction, the work was conducted during the winter (low occupancy) season to minimize impacts on the guests.
The concrete repair mix was developed through extensive laboratory testing that established constituents and mock-ups to ensure physical and visual compatibility. Given that the building was constructed without control joints, some cracks were repaired as soft joints to continue to allow seasonal movement. Discrete flashings were introduced to improve water shedding and ensure the performance of the concrete.
The project received the American Concrete Institute’s (Quebec and Eastern Ontario) Concrete Construction Award of Excellence in the “Repair and Restoration” category for the year 2024.
