Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Eshikatiut Tshukuminu Innu-Natukuna Pavilion in Ekuanitshit
On 24 August, EVOQ had the honour of joining in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Eshikatiut Tshukuminu Innu-Natukuna Pavilion in Ekuanitshit.
Jean-Charles Piétacho, Chief of the Ekuanitshit Innu Council, was present at the event and spoke of the project’s importance. “This new building will be a cultural pavilion which will benefit the entire Ekuanitshit community. It will serve as a space for the learning, practice, and transmission of Innu ancestral knowledge. It will also support the preservation of Innu nomadism by hosting preparatory activities related to journeys into the Nutshimit, the interior territory. It will provide a place to take a break and practice traditional medicine and crafts,” he proudly explained.
EVOQ has worked closely with the community of Ekuanitshit for many years and has provided ongoing support in the development of many local infrastructure projects. The EVOQ team is particularly pleased to have collaborated on this project to construct a facility that reflects the community’s identity and promotes the transmission of Innu culture. The new pavilion is scheduled to open in autumn 2024.
