The new Isuarsivik Recovery Centre officially opens
On September 20, the grand opening of the new Isuarsivik Recovery Centre took place in Kuujjuaq. It was an opportunity for the project’s partners and dignitaries to come together and celebrate this important milestone for addiction treatment in Nunavik.
With a cultural approach centered on family and on reconnection to the land, the Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Centre has offered specialized addiction and trauma services to residents of the 14 communities of Nunavik since 1994. It was created by the Inuit, for the Inuit. The organization can now enhance its program offerings to support people struggling with alcohol or drug addiction. Approximately 400 people have recently expressed interest in completing the 8-week program.
For more than 20 years, EVOQ has been a friend of the organization, providing assistance and advice in the process of selecting a site and designing the new centre. For several people on the team, this event turns the page on a big chapter in their careers, one they can now look back upon with pride.
