Members of Dan Hanganu’s Team Join EVOQ

January 23, 2018

The collaboration between the two teams began in 2017, and was accelerated following the sudden passing of architect Dan Hanganu on October 5, 2017.

With this structure, the architects, who are all long-term collaborators of Dan Hanganu, will be able to carry on a unique legacy and continue their approach in a spirit of thoughtfulness, freedom and creativity. The new work group, led by architects Gilles Prud’homme and Nathan Godlovitch, has been in place since November 21, 2017.

“After more than 30 years working alongside Dan Hanganu, Nathan and I believe that our integration with EVOQ will ensure the continuity of our practice, recognized for our contemporary approach, sensitivity to history, and concern for civic, social and cultural responsibility,” said Gilles Prud’homme.

The closer association between the two teams also reaffirms EVOQ’s commitment to architectural excellence, particularly through competitions. The joint team recently won a competition for the expansion of Bibliothèque Maisonneuve, a historic public library in the Montreal borough of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. The project draws on both firms’ creativity – EVOQ is in charge of elements related to heritage conservation, while the team led by Prud’homme and Godlovitch brings expertise in public libraries.

“The guiding design principle at EVOQ is a respect for culture and heritage. We recognized an opportunity to honour the exceptional body of work by Dan Hanganu and his team by bringing the expertise to EVOQ and encouraging a continuity that both complements and enriches our firm,” said EVOQ Director and Partner Georges Drolet.

In recent years, the professionals of the new work group have won praise for their library projects, including Bibliothèque Monique-Corriveau in Quebec City and Bibliothèque Marc-Favreau in Montreal. The latter mandate was earned through an architecture competition. Both buildings are award-winning and much discussed.
