RAIC 2024 Award – Maisonneuve Library receives Urban Design Award

April 26, 2024

The Maisonneuve Library is the recipient of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s National Urban Design Award, a National Urban Design Award 2024, in the urban architecture category. The awards are presented every two years by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA). The project’s architectural, urban and landscape design transforms the space into an important, accessible public landmark on Ontario Street in the heart of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. The project was developed in collaboration with the urban design and landscape firm Civiliti.

The jury describes the library as ”a beautiful execution of the merging of old and new, heritage and modern, civic and public space and a thoughtful landscape solution to complement the building. The project reflects a sensitive understanding of the urban and social history of the area, while the consideration of materials and grand scale of the project solidify it as a true landmark within the city.”
