The new Wemotaci fire station is designed to significantly bolster the community’s emergency response capabilities, ensuring the resilience and efficiency of this vital service. The station features two distinct volumes in contrasting colours: the garage, with three high bay windows, provides swift access to fire-fighting vehicles, while the elongated administrative block is scaled for human interaction, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The technical areas within the garage include changing rooms, a decontamination room, protective equipment storage, and a mezzanine dedicated to rescue drills, enhancing operational readiness.
Sustainable Development
The architectural design, inspired by Atikamekw material culture, integrates sustainable practices through the use of an exposed glulam structure and wood cladding that harmonizes with the surrounding forest. To further symbolize the community’s resilience and connection to nature, an artistic depiction of geese in flight is featured on the building’s façade.
