Cégep Gérald-Godin Addition

Sited on the banks of Montreal’s Prairie River in Sainte-Geneviève, CÉGEP Gérald-Godin has grown significantly with the addition of new technical programs. Originally established in 1999 within a former novitiate, the building was expanded with a contemporary extension and performance hall by Saucier-Perrotte Architects. In 2019, EVOQ Architecture was commissioned to add to the north façade and build a mezzanine in the cafeteria.

The new extension, discreetly integrated into the landscape, minimizes visual impact while preserving the site’s architectural integrity. The primary challenge was bringing natural light into a structure mostly below grade. The Agora, a double-height space capped with a glazed rooftop, allows light to reach the lower levels.

A new glass entrance enhances access to Salle Pauline-Julien while maintaining the spatial connection to the courtyard. The mezzanine offers additional classrooms and faculty offices.
