Social Housing in Nunavik: Construction of the Pilot Project Completed
In September 2015, EVOQ in collaboration with the Société d’habitation du Québec, Makivik Corp., the Kativik Regional Government and the Kativik Municipal Housing Bureau (KMHB) announced a pilot project to design social housing in the north, adapted to Inuit culture. Our team and SNC Lavalin engineering team are now proud to announce that the construction of the prototype, a duplex with 2-bedroom apartments, was completed in January 2016.
With winter temperatures dipping below 20 degrees Celsius in Quebec’s northern region of Nunavik, housing shortages and home insulation have become major issues attracting national media attention.
